Technology brings you the McRib

01.16.09 | Comment?

If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you may have noticed I’m really interested in the way technology can change the way we experience food, places, Providence, etc.  I’m also pretty interested in food that can only be described as, uh…blue collar?  Utilitarian?  I had to limit myself to 1000 words on hot dogs.

So, I figure it was only a matter of time I combined my love for technology and lowbrow food to bring you a link for The McRib Locator, a brilliant bit of Web 2.0 food technology which displays locations of recently spotted McRibs out in the wild.  It reminds me quite a bit of the McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie Locator except that one doesn’t come with a map.  That may not be a huge loss, as Fried Apple Pies are now relatively rare all the time, unlike the McRib which is only rare depending on when and where you are.  Still, Google Maps makes it relatively easy to whip up a map of your own making so if you really wanted to visualize the spacial distribution of fried apple pies it probably wouldn’t take too long at all.

Using the locator it appears my closest bet for a McRib is a McDonalds in the Springfield, MA area.  Perhaps I will put this new internet technology to use and find out if it’s accurate.
